Internment
During an hour-long daily exercise, some of the inmates in the police holding centre for foreigners at Trandum use the time to train. The holding centre is run like a prison, with high security.
Ibrahim from Sudan is waiting at Gardermoen Airport to be deported. He is a victim of the Dublin Convention, by which all applications have to be processed in the first country the asylum seeker arrives in.
Abba Ram from Iran was arrested in the street in Oslo when he was out to buy nappies for his child. Now he has been through the metal detector and is standing on the mirror where all new arrivals at Trandum have to undress for a full body control.
17-year-old Rahman fled to Norway from the Kurdish areas in Iran. After one year in Nesna asylum reception centre, he received the final rejection of his application, and chose to go underground. He is now living as one of the roughly 10,000 paperless and illegal immigrants in Norway.
